Letter of apology for our absence from the webpage and other message

Grace and peace everyone

Trusting everyone is well

This is to apologize for the dormancy of the Sankofa Foundation For Victims of Domestic Violence and Networking Programme’s Webpage. This was due to technical problems in accessing the editing key. Nevertheless, it is important to note that counseling was and still is taking place and has been very fruitful for those persons seeking help from the foundation.

Another important note is to inform users of the foundation’s services, that counseling is also provided for perpetrators of domestic violence. Victims are victims and perpetrators are victims too. Imagine for a moment if perpetrators of violence are met with compassion how much more such an encounter can increase the chances of them experiencing healing from their own wounds. It is my experience that these persons cry out for help in their own ways and when the helper maintains an objective attitude towards them they become more receptive to receiving help.

Often times, when relationship comes to an end with one person, partners tend to take on another partner in due time. However, they seldom address some or most or all the issues which may affect relationships. In short, no one is denied help when help is requested all within the limitations of the foundation.

It is our prayer and hope that we human being will get well, that we as a collective group and as individuals well be better than we were yesterday.

We pray to be life-giving in our thoughts, words, and actions

God bless with Thy guiding hand upon our lives

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and girls

‘Violence against women still?’

Why!?!

What social constructions put women and girls

As less than men and boys?

When will society turn?

In today’s age

we have high officials still trying to relegate

women and girls

to the social position of second

The Turkish president says, “Women are not equal to men”

I am sure he has voiced the sentiments held by many men

I am sure it is more than ten.

What language we still use

Which reinforces these false gender dichotomy positions,

of male/female,

 leader/follower,

 strong/weak,

rational/none rational,

 public/private,

provider/ nurturer,

 and so on.

These binaries

Are so enforced

By a male club

Binaries

Dichotomies

only serve to reinforce untruths

Often perpetuated by religions

A language which excludes women and girls

From receiving many rights as human beings

Such as, right to education, freedom of space and time, to work, to say no to men and boys’ sexual demands.

And what about rights to control the monies they work for, their bodies, their honeys

How many wives are still raped by their so called husbands?

How many men get married as a means of legalizing so called rights and privilege to have sex ‘from’ the be wedded any time he pleases?

So when the truth forces women and girls not to comply with these dichotomies

They are beaten to comply, and killed for none conformities

In modern times more than ever women and girls are highly educated,

and employed in top professional positions

Yet men and boys still feel it is their natural right to bully and control them.

Do you know the first university was started by a woman?

Bet you thought it was a man

It was men who pushed, that women and girls are none rational

All this male philosophy and theology

worth washing down the canal

Women and men are equal

Boys and girls are equal

Differences in physical realities

The biology

Does not mean inequality

But complementarities of equals

To keep the world spinning

And birds singing,

“oh what a glorious day.  women and girls are no longer raped, abused, beaten and killed. They are no longer bullied for their bodies, monies, and spaces to be free.

Women and girls can see opportunities and possibilities above the glass ceilings and above  the Roman Catholic Church’s bullet proof ceiling. A day is coming when women and girls will be free to be. No longer chattel and invisible!”

One day birds will truly sing

As humanity brings

A new day

Reflecting on the recognition of International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and girls. An important day of reflection which I sadly actually forgot. My absolute apologies to women and girls for the ways I may have contributed in any way to their social patriarchal positioning and invisibility.
