Sankofa International Women and Girls’ Month; March. Hopefully the face book community will remind me. The Muslim has a saying, “no society can rise higher than its women". Do we understand the survival of the human raise rest on the strength of the female and the way she has the power to transmit values. She is the key medium for transforming a society. She is first at everything, first teacher, first god, first doctor, and so on. Before anyone of us began to explore our world it is the woman who prepares us for that exploration. Perhaps the UN needs to declare a year of recognition of women and girls. I am still troubled that despite the advancement of women on so many levels that she is still grossly disrespected, harassed, raped and killed. She is still overworked and underpaid. She is still asked for sexual favors if she wants upward mobility in the job.

Sankofa Foundation for Victims of Domestic Violence and Networking Counseling Programme will declare March month Sankofa International Women and Girls’ Month. For the year we will spend time on how we intend to utilize the first month March 2013. Please bring forth your ideas The theme I am playing with is "No Society Can Rise Higher Than Its Women!"

Most times International Women's Day comes like a thief in the night and flash across our day with scant recognition and before the sun sets it is gone. Let’s try to contribute to marking the recognition for at least a month and let us lobby the UN to declare a year of recognition. Let’s challenge the UN to assess whether they are accomplishing their millennium goal for women and girls with a target due date of 2015.

Keep in mind that the same thing can and ought to be done for men and boys not because there is a call to do it for women but because it is crucial in light of voluminous crises men and boys are faced with chief amounts them, the notion of male marginalization and the greater awareness of other 'realities' hence the language of 'masculinities' for now let us focus on the work to address the women and girls issues and at another time we shall set a month for men and boys’ and challenges to declare a year of recognition for same.

All on board to declare March month International Women and Girls’ month drop a line and bring forth your ideas. All will be welcomed as we all have a contribution to make, "to make this world a better place for you and for me and the entire human race"

TODAY 8TH MARCH 2012 IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

TODAY 8TH MARCH 2012 IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

and I almost did not remember

marking this important day is important.

Do we pray that every girl and woman will be respected?

Something in me detecting more than ever before

that action is needed to answers these prayers.

Women have money now

Women have big jobs now

Women saying look now

“Am every woman it’s all in me” they declare!

Women have defeated so many socio-political and economical barriers

But something still troubling me

Why are so many being harassed, abused and killed?

Despite women and girls accomplishments

Why no change in men and boys perceptions and mentalities about women and girls

Why are men and boy, and some girls and women too wearing social blinders and so unable to see the equality of women and girls?

Why is there a perpetuation of gender bias against women?

This International Women’s Day the call has to be breaking of the bullet proof glass ceilings in religions

This International Women’s Day the call has to be the breaking of the patriarchal lens so many of us wear

Causing us to never be clear of the FULL equality of women and girls

This International Women’s Day let us commit ourselves to use gender inclusive language a mark of recognition of the inclusivity of women and girls at every level including how we define “human being” male and female God created them

Don’t say “man” to refer to “human being” for man is the male sex of the human being distinct yet equal to the female sex.

Whenever the first word was spoken and coined “anthropos” as the genus and say man first!

I declare man boast but a lie socially constructed not to declare equality but a male’s club not to rule side by side but over and over and over, extreme abuse

This important day of recognition of women and girls,

we declare male and female God created them with equal opportunities and privileges in the human social construct

Tell me not of man but of human being

Tell me not of woman but of human being

Or else women and girls will continue to be socially invisible

This day on International Women’s Day 8th March 2012

Be counted

LENTEN REFLECTION ON ABORTION A FAMILY LIFE ISSUE

3/2/2012

sankofa: "The only rights I have is to let others have the freedom of their rights without them infringing on mine”. Sankofa M F O tuzinde 2nd March 2012

Abortion is and will always be wrong. The right to life inside my house is equal to the right to life outside my house. The right to life inside the womb is equal to the rights I have outside the womb. As for the mother and the father the only rights they have when they have children inside or outside the womb is to afford that child/children all the human rights especially the right to life, food, clothing, shelter, education, protection, etc. If a child ask to come maybe you can send it back. But children never ask to come into this world so they are never an infringement. Children are always a divine gift even when conceived through human lack of control, passion; crime, etc. Never believe the product of rape for instance is an infringement. The rapist is. Never believe the child out of sexual promiscuity is an infringement, you are unto that child. The only permissible case is when there is grave risk to mother and child and in such cases often times a real mother is likely to say, "Let my child live"

Women who have abortions would tell you there is a perpetual void in their being and often times serious regret.

As I said once, the womb is synonymous to absolute protection and provision. The way the womb is designed by the maker is to provide optimal protection love and provision. The home to which a child is born ought to be an extension of that reality of the womb, then the society, and the world. Anyone aborting are committing a grave infringement against the child, against life, against the maker, against the self. This is true both for the mother, the father who may encourage her to abort, the abortionist, and anyone who supports it.

Not even those with intellectual wealth by way of gender studies, feminist studies, all the other ‘ologies,’ can with human conscience give support to the murdering of unborn human beings. The right to my body is always to make life-giving choices. The right to my time and freedom is to make life-giving choices. The right of the victim of rape and other human abuses are to make life-giving choices with the help of the family, friends and the entire human family it is possible no matter what the circumstances, to make life-giving choices.

Save a life it is always the first and only option for the human being

Save a life today born and unborn!

Be truly human and protect the unborn child whether a fraction of a second old or a fraction of a second before birth, whether from a fraction after birth or a fraction before natural death due to old age or ill health.
